Proudly Supporting Our Local Charities

The current Berwick Charities Cup is played annually between May and July and the competition raises annual sums of between £5,000 and £8,000 for local charities.

Each year a special presentation takes place, hosted by the Berwick Bowling Club, where Les Chappell presents cheque donations to local charities. For the 2023 season Les and his team are proud to support the following charities who all do so much for the Berwick and District community:

The Berwick & District Cancer Support Group

The Berwick & District Cancer Support Group, known more informally as "Berwick Cancer Cars" provides free transport to those with a cancer diagnosis living within Berwick & District area so they can reach their cancer related appointments to our local hospitals and for specialise treatments further afield.  In 2022 they celebrated their 30th anniversary and were also awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Services, the MBE for charities. Comprised wholly of volunteers they regularly assist over 50 individual clients each month, many of whom need multiple hospital trips. Their fleet of six dedicated cars cover a distance of 130,000 miles each year, making over 1200 trips.

Berwick & District Friends of Dementia

"Alz Cafe offers friendship, peer support, information about dementia along with a variety of social activities and are keen to welcome new members at our regular weekly meetings in Berwick at St Cuthbert's Parish centre, Walkergate - every Thursday 10.30 - 12.30. We believe that involvement from the point of diagnosis is essential to maintain social contact and take part in activities with others is key to living well with dementia and helps maintain key relationships. Our view is to keep in focus what people can do, rather than what they can't."
